At Semester's End

In a mere 48 hours I will be on a plane bound for Thailand.  Can you tell I am excited?  Although the weather is supposed to be rainy the first few days, I am not fazed.  I will be travelling around Thailand for the next 5 weeks, and I have the chance to meet up with some fresh faces and see a new country.  I even get to see my mom and dad!

The semester is over, my report cards are in, my desk is tidied.  It is hard to believe that this time last year I was about to begin my practicum, and now I have completed my first semester teaching.  It doesn't seem like that long ago.  I have a few goals for my next semester - namely to be less of a terrible teacher.

1.  Plan my assessments better
2.  Keep up with marking
3.  Start with grammar and work up
4.  Be less of a grump when my kids act like typical teenagers

Worthy goals, I believe.  I am excited to begin a new semester with more experience under my belt.  I will no longer be shocked when I have kids in my class who can't quite speak English yet, or when I am to begin teaching short stories and novels but have no books.  Hopefully my students and I will have a slightly smoother running semester!  They say it takes at least three years to become a proficient teacher, and then the burn-out rate predicts that a teacher won't last more than five.  So I guess I am one-sixth of the way to success, and one-tenth of the way to quitting!  Either way, I am happing to have a full semester behind me.  And, hey, most of my kids passed their final :P

I am not sure how much posting I will be doing well I am on holiday, so have a lovely Spring Festival everyone!
